Whole area primary care needs appraisals (infrastructure and health needs)
DSP has recently worked with three PCGs to prepare major primary care needs appraisals for neighborhood with particular requirements for improved primary care. These projects have focused on the need for improved services as well as the need for improved facilities.
The objective of each of these three projects has been to undertake a complete review of needs, services and facilities and then to make recommendations for how to improve primary care in line with local and national strategies.
The area-wide reviews have been undertaken in the following areas:

Planning the need for new primary care facilities to service the Silwood Estate and Surrey Quays area in Bermondsey, North Southwark

undertaken by the local academic department of general practice.)

Since the inception of the Personal Medical Services (PMS) programme, DSP has been active in each of the four waves to develop PMS proposals, to prepare PMS contracts and to facilitate the uptake and understanding of PMS as a tool of primary care development.
